Southeast Texas humidity is not gentle on a hospital arrangement. Roses wrapped tight for the drive up I-45 can go gray with botrytis before they ever reach a bedside table, especially in the warmer months when the air barely moves between the parking garage and the front doors. I steer hospital orders toward looser wrap and stems that tolerate a sealed, air-conditioned room for a few days without sulking, chrysanthemums and carnations over anything soft-petaled and crowded. Gerberas look showy on the counter but they are the first thing to go limp-necked in dry, recycled hospital air, so I keep them for house deliveries instead.
Most of what reaches a florist working this corridor has already come up from Houston, about 28 miles south, where the regional wholesale market restocks daily. That short a run keeps stock fresher than what a lot of Texas towns are working with, but it also means a bad morning at that wholesale market shows up here by lunchtime. When a specific rose variety is short one week, a good florist substitutes toward the same color and value rather than leaving a gap in the order.
In my experience, oncology floors do not take fresh flowers, and a good number of ICUs will not either, so I ask before I ever suggest anything scented or heavy with pollen. A hospital order here works best boxed rather than loose, something that can sit at a nurses' station for an hour without a vase and still look intentional when it finally reaches the room. A cluster this size also means sympathy calls come through the same lines as get-well ones, hospice care attached to more than one of these campuses, and thirty years running a funeral program is where I lean on that end of the phone.
The six campuses along Pinecroft and Six Pines, Memorial Hermann, Houston Methodist, Texas Children's, St. Luke's with its Lakeside wing, Nexus, and Apollo, are close enough that callers sometimes assume there is only one hospital in town. There is not. I always ask for the hospital by name and, where the caller has it, the patient's legal name for the front desk, since a specific name gets an arrangement to the right room instead of a similar one two buildings over.
Here is the part that trips up callers who have never ordered here before: The Woodlands is not actually a city. It voted against incorporating in November 2021 and runs as a special-purpose township instead, which is the whole reason the delivery rules change from one village to the next instead of being set once at a city hall. Carlton Woods runs guarded and gated, so a delivery there usually means a call ahead to clear the driver. Most of the other villages are covenant-administered rather than gated, meaning the rules live in the paperwork rather than at a booth, which is a distinction people who have never lived under an HOA tend to get backwards.
Hurricane season brings its own version of this on the phones. I hear from callers checking whether a storm is going to hold up their order more than I hear about it from any other part of Texas we cover. The honest answer is that Grogan's Mill and the streets near Panther Creek took the worst of Harvey's flooding, while the township's drainage engineering held up better than most of Houston through the same storm. If a delivery date lands during a named storm, I tell callers to expect a call from us before we tell them everything is fine.

I build hospital orders differently from anything going to a house. Nothing heavy with fragrance, nothing shedding petals across a sheet, and always in something that can stand on its own at a nurses' station if it has to wait there a while before it reaches the room. In my experience, several of the units along that stretch of Pinecroft will not take fresh flowers at all, oncology especially, so a caller who is not sure is better off asking us first than guessing and having the order turned away at the desk.

Something for someone you are missing
A lot of the calls that come out of a place like this are not for an occasion at all. They are for a parent, a grandparent, or an old friend who lives closer than you would think but who you have not actually seen in a month. A fair share trace back to Grogan's Mill and the other original-wave villages, the neighbors who moved in when the township was still new in the seventies and simply never left.
Skip the card that reads like an apology and just say you have been thinking about them. A miss you arrangement does more work than the words usually manage on their own, especially delivered somewhere with staff around who will actually put it in water. Stems that hold their shape for a full week matter more here than a showy first-day look, since a lot of these recipients are not going to fuss over daily water changes. I lean toward chrysanthemums and alstroemeria for that reason more often than roses.

Every florist we work with in or close to The Woodlands buys off the same daily run from the wholesale market about 28 miles south, before most of the metro is even awake. That short a haul is worth more than a nice fact for a webpage. It is why stock arriving in The Woodlands tends to run a day or two fresher than what a lot of smaller Texas towns get.
It cuts both ways, though. ExxonMobil moved roughly ten thousand employees into its campus here in 2014, and the corporate towers that followed it, Anadarko's, Occidental's, order flowers through the same partner network as the house three streets over. A bad Tuesday at that wholesale market is everyone's problem in The Woodlands by lunchtime, corporate account and residential order alike, all pulling from the same limited pool that morning. Every florist in our network is told to substitute toward the same value and color rather than ship something smaller and hope nobody notices.

A note from Dennis
We had a run of Carlton Woods deliveries where the driver got turned back at the guard gate because nothing on the order flagged the address as gated in the first place. It happened enough times that it stopped being a fluke and started being a pattern worth fixing. Checkout now flags any Carlton Woods address automatically and asks for a callback number before the order goes through, not after a driver is already idling at the booth wondering what to do. Small fix, but it means the flowers get past the gate on the first try now instead of the second.
If you don't hear back from them right away, that is normal. Most people say thank you a day or two later, if they say anything at all, and it does not mean the flowers did not land. Either way, they get where they're going. We would just rather you not have to wonder.
