If it is a milestone, a 70th birthday in one of these homes, it is a lovely reason to send, and a get-well arrangement works just as well for a resident coming back from a spell in the hospital.

Once you know the building, the format matters more than the flower. A box or a vase arrangement is what you want, not a hand-tied bouquet, because hospitals do not keep vases to put those in. Send it under the patient's full legal name, the way they are registered, not a nickname. I keep lilies out of it entirely for the scent and the pollen, and lean on hospital-friendly arrangements built from carnations and gerberas and roses that hold up in a warm room for a week.
